Initial Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with a Focus on Latinx Children and Families: Virtual Training & Consultation   THIS TRAINING IS FULL!

Dates of Training: November 30, December 1, December 7, and December 8, 2023, from 9am-12:30pm PT/10am-1:30pm MT/11am-2:30pm CT/12-3:30pm ET each day

Training Overview: This four-part virtual training provides an overview of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as cultural enhancements to TF-CBT for Latinx children and families, screening and assessment in TF-CBT, instruction and practice on how to implement the treatment components, and strategies for recognizing and addressing secondary traumatic stress. A wide variety of treatment resources and interventions will be explained, and cultural and developmental factors with an emphasis on working with Latinx children and families will be demonstrated throughout the training. This training and consultation series meets eligibility requirements for National TF-CBT Certification.

Cost of Training and 12 Consultation Calls: $500 per participant

Group rate for three or more participants: $400 per participant

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of the training, participants will:

1. Learn about TF-CBT as an evidence-based treatment for children and families who have experienced trauma

2. Be able to identify appropriate cases for TF-CBT and describe culturally appropriate assessment resources

3. Improve clinical skills in implementing the TF-CBT PRACTICE components:

4. Identify developmental factors that impact treatment and cultural enhancements to the PRACTICE components for Latinx children and families

5. Describe strategies for recognizing and addressing Secondary Traumatic Stress

About the Trainer: Alison Hendricks, LCSW, is a trainer and consultant who specializes in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and trauma-informed systems. She is a National Trainer for Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and the Child Welfare Trauma Training Toolkit, a product of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) that she co-authored. Alison is an Affiliate Member of the NCTSN and is Co-Chair of the Secondary Traumatic Stress Collaborative Group. She is also a founding member of the Secondary Traumatic Stress Consortium and a consultant for the Secondary Traumatic Stress Innovations and Solutions Center. Alison provides training and consultation on TF-CBT, trauma-informed care, and secondary traumatic stress to programs across the country. She is the lead author on four workbooks on TF-CBT, which have been translated into multiple languages. She also specializes in implementing TF-CBT with Latinx children and families and with families involved in the child welfare system.

Training Requirements: To receive the greatest benefit from the training, please be sure that you can commit to completing the pre-requisites and the post-training consultation requirements. Participants do not have to be licensed, but they do need to have a master’s degree in social work, mental health or a counseling discipline. Participants will need to keep their cameras on for the duration of the training and to actively participate in all training activities.

Participants must complete the 10-hour TF-CBT Web training prior to the live virtual training (English: https://tfcbt2.musc.edu/ or Spanish: https://tfcbt-es.musc.edu) and e-mail the completion certificate to the trainer prior to training. Participants pursuing National Certification will also commit to participate in the consultation calls for 12 months post training and be in a position in which they can apply TF-CBT to at least one child client during the course of the calls.
